Maximising energy efficiency is a key consideration for designers and operators of refineries and petrochemical plants. Efficient heat transfer is a major element in energy efficiency. The heat exchange surfaces of fired heaters, waste heat boilers and plant auxiliary boilers must be kept clean reliably with minimum operating costs. To do this requires sootblowers specially designed for the task - Clyde Bergemann Sootblowers.

Clyde Bergemann long retractable sootblowers provide the most effective means of cleaning convection bank tubes, and are particularly recommended for extended surface tubes and wide tube bank configurations.
Diametrically opposed venturi nozzles are moved through a double helix pattern to ensure maximum penetration of the tube bank without tube erosion.
The sootblower is trunnion mounted to a wallbox which is built into the heater casing to permit entry of the lance into the heater. Gas tightness is ensured by a spring loaded gas seal. Reliability is built into the sootblower by use of a fixed gearbox chain drive and a carriage mechanism, which is strong, resistant to wear and avoids the trailing electrical cables and moving electric motors required by rack and pinion designs. All Clyde Bergemann sootblowers are available with explosion proof electric motors and limit switches to conform to code requirements.
Clyde Bergemann helical multijet sootblowers are a compact and effective alternative to long retractable sootblowers in applications where temperature permits permanent installation of lances inside the heater. By using a combined rotary and traverse motion, a helical cleaning path comparable to that of a long retractable sootblower is produced. Cleaning power is greater than that of a standard rotary multijet sootblower.
Clyde Bergemann rotary multijet sootblowers are often the simplest and most economical solution for on-load cleaning. Cleaning elements are supplied with single or twin opposed rows of venturi nozzles as appropriate for the heating surface layout. Clyde Bergemann venturi nozzles are designed for optimum cleaning effectiveness, individually machined and welded into positions carefully calculated to optimise performance.
Installation of the multijet sootblower is simple with the sootblower mounted directly to a solid flanged wallbox welded to the heater casing. Installation creates a gas tight seal. External clearance requirements are minimal, and the steam supply flange connection can be supplied to suit any code.

Clyde Bergemann sootblowers are also employed in CO furnace and power boiler applications. CO boilers require special sootblower wallboxes to prevent the accumulation or escape of entrained catalyst from the boiler. Site power plant and auxiliary boilers may be called upon to fire various heavy hydrocarbon residues and other fuels, and should be equipped with sootblowers to deal with the fouling characteristics which are likely to result.
Clyde Bergemann has vast experience in dealing with the particular requirements of keeping refinery and petrochemical plant boilers operating efficiently.

Clyde Bergemann control systems provide accurate and reliable sootblower control in accordance with customer requirements and appropriate engineering standards. Explosion proof equipment is supplied to internationally recognized codes of practice. Air purge systems or flameproof enclosures can be supplied. Programmable logic and relay logic systems are provided, with operational flexibility and status indication to suit client requirements.

Pipelines, valves and instrumentation for the sootblower system are also available from Clyde Bergemann.
